And now youre under control

I am not sure if you are aware, but the UK has its own version of American Idol, called X-Factor, which is also hosted by Simon Cowell. Here, the show is pushed on people even more than American Idol is back home. Even if you have zero interest in the show, you are going to hear about it at some point in time.

For the last four years, a song from the show has made it to the top of the UK radio charts at Christmas. This year, as a method of protest, a Facebook group was started to get people to download Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name of" the week running up to Christmas. This thing has legs. As of the time I published this, there are 667,315 members of this group. There are approximately 60,943,912 people in England. That's just over 1% of the country. 1% may not sound like much, but if you think about the number of people who care about this sort of thing, the people who bother to vote on stuff like this, the number of people who actually download songs, those with facebook, and those who join groups like this, there are a TON of people out there who are going to be pulling for this thing to succeed.

I am, and it is really really nice to hear rock on the radio in England.
