Car Sighting

It was like shooting fish in a barrel, but there are not that many barrels out there with fish this nice. I went to the figure 8 races in Indy on Saturday, because the weather looked better there than in Louisville. Well, it ended up raining there and canceling the race, but not before we got to see 4 races of the Hornet series, which consisted of sub-compact and compact FWD vehicles. Nissan Stanza's, Ford Festiva's, Mazda 323's, Neons, etc., racing in an oval. Good times.
Once the downpour began we head to the north side of Indy to hit up the bars, but not before stopping off at the BMW dealership, which had this beautiful M6 outside. I have no idea why this was outside and not on the showroom floor, what with its $116,000 sticker, but I was more than happy to get to see it up close.

A buddy of mine almost bought one for his wife a few weeks ago--the gearbox is still absolute crap. I talked him into a Jaguar XK instead.

Which gearbox, and aren't all Jag's automatics?

The SMG III in the M6. BMW relented on the M5 a while ago and started selling them with a proper manual transmission, but as far as I know, all M6s are still saddled with the dreadful notchbox.

And yes, the Jaguar is equipped with a traditional automatic--which is better than the SMG III for the vast majority of folks.

I took a look at the tech specs on the BMW page and they give numbers for both the SMG and a manual. I am almost positive this one was a manual, but I didnt get a pic of the interior. Doesnt matter much, I can't come close to affording it, but thought it was sweet to see anyway.

Gotchas. Bummer that they don't let you disable the traction control on the manual-equipped M5/6, though.
