Computer Issues Continued

The computer issues have continued. I received my Toshiba back today, along with a note saying they replaced the hard drive and updated the BIOS, nothing else. I tried to fire it up and got this error "BOOTMGR fehlt. Neustart mit Strg+Alt+Entf." I asked one of our local Germans and confirmed with our IT group what this means. Toshiba replaced the hard drive, but didn't reinstall the operating system. I called them up and they said I have to reinstall my OS.

Now this is about as BS of customer service as I've seen. To me, this is the equivalent of having your Toyota's gas pedal go out, you take it in for warranty, they replace the gas pedal sensor, and then give you your car back without the dashboard installed. Then when you complain about it they say "oh no, we fixed the gas pedal." I bought my car with a dashboard, I want the dashboard reinstalled when you're done fixing it. Likewise, I bought my laptop with an operating system, I want my operating system reinstalled when you're done fixing it.

UPDATE: I called Toshiba again to complain, and they said that if I want an OS, I have to send the laptop to their other repair center and they will install it for me. So, its not that Toyota wont reinstall your dash, is just that they fix your gas pedal at one location, and then if you want the dash reinstalled you have to take the car to the dealer 2 hours down the road.

UPDATE 2: I called Toshiba again and asked if they would just send me the discs I need to install it myself. They said that they dont sell their products with Windows discs, and you should create a boot disc yourself. I explained that I couldnt do that because of the state of my hard drive. They elevated the call to their next department, and they pretty much told me that they wouldnt ship me the CDs for free and hung up on me. So, if you offer to put your own dashboard back in, you will be charged for the dashboard installation kit.

I find it particularly awesome that they gave you a hard drive with bits still left on it. German-language Windows bootloaders don't just assemble themselves from bits on the hard drive, you know.

Yeah they said it was some test software that they left on it. Check your hotmail account.
