MOTHER F*CKING CAMSHAFT

I am still in shock. I got up to the track again last night for a test and tune, and i heard the ticking again. This time, it sounded more like it was coming from the driver's side. I pulled the valve cover and sure enough, rocker was loose. So, I went to tigthen the adjusting nut, and it went all the way down. No good. So i loaded the car back up on the trailer and brought it home. i just got it off the trailer, unloaded and took the intake manifold off. I popped the lifter out, and, the tappet side is concave, a corner is chipped off, and the chamshaft lobe for this cylinder looks extremely rough. SON OF A B*TCH
Side note: I just called Autozone. "thank you for calling autozone this is some douchebag." Hi, do you have cherry pickers?" "im sorry?" "do you have cherry pickers, you know engine hoists? " "You mean those things with the bucket for getting up high?" "No, I mean an engine hoist, for pulling an engine out of a car." "Oh, we dont have those." "You mean you dont rent them or sell them?" "No, we can order you a jack that can lift the engine out for $178, but we dont have it." "Thanks." --end conversation
Anyway, Im pissed. If I go to a roller camshaft, this is costing me about $800, plus an engine hoist rental/purchase. I'd recommend not trying to be funny about this with me.

Is an engine hoist necessary to pull the camshaft out? I'm surprised you can't just pull the radiator and cross members out and slide the camshaft out the front.

If you've got a (very solid) ceiling joist, you can buy a hanging chain hoist for significantly cheaper than a hydraulic engine hoist. It may also be worthwhile to brace the joist with 4x4s while pulling the engine--I think you can get 10' posts for $10 or so.

I also suspect rental is cheaper there than it is there, so you should be able to pick up a standalone hoist for ~$30/day and just buy a cheap secondhand engine stand for the days when it's not back in the car.

...just remember to bolt those valve covers back on when you're done.

P.S. I agree with the Autozone douche--a cherry picker is a wanna-go-get-high bucket thing.

I found a neighbor who will loan me his. about to go pick it up once I get the headers out. At most its going to cost me a 12 pack.
I could have pulled the cam out the front, but I am concerned about any other damage that I cant see yet, so I am going to tear the engine down and check everything out.

While you've got it open, be sure to stick those vortex generators all through the intake stream. Like, in the intake manifold. And in the heads.

For, you know, efficiency.
