F1 Race

Amazing. That is the best word for it. I couldn't get anyone from work to go, or New Mexico for that matter, so rather than spending a nice wad of cash on a ticket to sit in the stands by myself, I opted for the infield lawn. Completely worth it. I picked to sit at what I believe to be corner 6, where I was able to see the top of the cars slow to the first corner, hear them run around the first part of the infield, enter and exit the S-turn and head down the backstretch. I got to see one car lose its engine, and some of the wreck during the first lap. Here are some pics.

Wreck on Lap 1. Hasta la vista, Scott Speed. Pansy.

Good shot of my view

The parking lot. I have several pics of awesome cars laying around, but this was by far the best grouping. I am assuming Ferrari club, except for the yellow Ford GT. That one throws me.

My studies of NASCAR indicates that nobody is allowed in the infield without a 1977 Winnebago and a Foam Dome beer hat.

So beyond that, how was it? I've never been super-excited about going to races in person because odds are really damned good that you'll be watching the whole thing from exactly one perspective.

You see a lot more of the race on TV. I actually went home and watched it on my DVR afterwards. I knew Ferrari had the lead, and watched it grow throughout the race, but other than that I had a hard time keeping positions straight. It's definatly worth doing though. I could have walked around and gotten to see from different vantage points in the infield, but I was happy with what I got to see.
