Cummins In The News
I don't know how many people caught this article but the complaint, "Cummins had shipped more than 570,000 heavy-duty diesel engines to vehicle equipment manufacturers between 1998 and 2006. These engines, the complaint alleges, did not include pollution control equipment, or exhaust aftertreatment devices, " is misleading.
The story is, Cummins ships a lot of engines without aftertreatment installed (engines and aftertreatment are manufactured in different locations), and then the OEM installs the aftertreatment with the engine. The problem is, in some of these cases (the 405 engines mentioned further down) the wrong aftertreatment was installed. In some cases, the aftertreatment that was installed would actually result in cleaner engines, but because that wasnt the package which was certified, it counts.
