Computer is back
Some time ago Winston tripped over the power cord for my laptop, and damaged the connector on the laptop. I was able to get the connector in the laptop just good enough to get it to charge. However, recently the center pin finally gave way, so I was forced to disassemble the computer. I took it into work and had our group EE solder a new connector on the motherboard, and have since reassembled it. $2.97 for the new connector from Radio Shack, as opposed to the $395 that HP wanted for an entire new motherboard, as they wouldn't repair the existing one. Glad to have eBay back at home.

Be careful. EE types are like trolls--once they sense that you've got broken electronics, they'll be pawing all over your mountain of crap for half-dead Casio calculators or a Rockwell Automation Retroencavulator.
