Local Goldmine

I just returned from a trip to one of the local salvage yards. It’s a good thing I have some basic control over myself when it comes to spending cash, otherwise I would have left with a truckload of parts. I did buy a set of seats, though. They have a wrecked '05 Neon SRT-4 which I pulled the drive and passenger seats out of, and got both for $175. The engine, tranny, intercooler, and other parts are still good on it, and I may get some of those just for the sake of throwing on eBay if they are willing to let them go for cheap enough. I also found a Tremec TKO-500 tranny in a 2004 Mustang GT, they want $950 for it, which would run me $1800 anywhere else. I am going to ask about the engine, and might throw it on ebay if they will sell it cheap enough as well. Easy way to finance parts for my other cars. There are also cars out there with parts that I may not be able to sell, but would have a lot of fun tinkering with. There was a ~88 BMW 750 (V12) that I would love to take that V12 out of, get a 3 series, move the firewall back, trim the inner fender wells, and shoehorn the engine into. There were also a bunch of other BMW's, Porsche 914's, 928's, Z's, Triumphs, etc that I could have fun tinkering with, getting them up and if not back to OEM spec, good running track cars. The car that caught my eye the most was a 70 Ford Torino GT. It was originally a 428 car, and used for drag racing in the early 70's. It had home-made graphics, crude stickers (cash grass or ass, no one rides for free, if you touch this car you better be naked, etc), and of course, shag carpeting. The drivetrain was gone, except for the rear axle, which had huge street slicks attached, as well as old slapper-style traction bars. The body was in decent condition, and could have been restored. I asked the guy how much he would want for the car, but he said he wouldn’t sell it, only to be sold for parts. I asked how much for all of the parts, and he wouldn’t budge. I might try to lean on the other guy (the friendly guy) when I go back this afternoon for some of my other parts to see if I can get any support. I would love to restore it back to its 70's running condition, down to the crappy stripes and crude decals, hell maybe even the shag. Just be a shame to see that thing rot and end up in parts. That is assuming that someone goes there looking for body parts for a 1970 Torino.

A 5.4L V12? Oh sure, a 3-series front end will hold that up without any problems.

I'd probably need a few suspension parts off of the 7 series, and maybe the springs from an F-250.
