Auto-X

The first CSCC-SCCA race was this weekend. I didnt get to race a rental, as I had hoped, half because they only had minivans, and half because I decided I could spend that money on the cars I have. There were quite a few Fieros, a couple of VWs, a Lotus 7 replicar, and a new WRX STI, which got the fastest time of the day. The car that I thought was most interesting was this old corvair. The guy who owned it had it on a tube chassis, and had supercharged it using a unit off of a Buick GS. It was really nicely done. and was pretty quick. He was running on full racing slicks, and would have no doubt been faster if he had something with a little more grip, given the untreated, rough track that is the old airstrip, now a Cummins test facility. Its nasty, I fear taking a car out there.

So you're saying this guy built a racecar and then stretched a Corvair body over it? That's funny-car-tastic.
