Vintage Drags

Today we had a vintage snowmobile drag race at work during the lunch break. I brought my 1972 Polaris TX500  out. I won a GoPro camera at work through the United Way, so I had it strapped to my helmet and got some good video. This was the first time I had ever ridden a snowmobile, other than when I bought it and put it on and off the trailer. I had been working on getting it running all week, but didn’t know what to expect.

The engine ran really well, but the CVT (continuously variable transmission) wouldn’t shift out. As soon as I hit 30mph, it wouldn’t go any faster. So, I could get people out of the hole, but they would drive around me when I was maxed out. Despite that, it was a lot of fun.

A few of the guys have sleds built for drag racing, and they are extremely quick.
