The novelty worn off on the Elises pretty quickly for me. The Lotus is horrendous to climb in an out of, and makes you want to do things for which officers (err, constables) of the law would make you spread'em. The Elise also rattles a surprising amount.
The 914 is, in contrast, way more comfortable and less likely to result in a legal cornholing.
I dont think me being 5'9" on a good day would suffer from the same problems as most people with the Elise. and I think the 360hp of a Tuscan is even more likely to get the constable's nickers in a wad.
I dont think they sold the 914 in the UK. At least I have yet to see one on autotrader or ebay. Did it go by any other name?

5'9" would make it worse. The door sills are about a foot wide once you add in the bodywork.
