Back in the US

Monday night I landed back in the US. I was supposed to fly in on Sunday, but due to the weather conditions in Amsterdam, this was cancelled (for me anyway). Apparently, Shipnol had so many passengers there from the snow storm that they could not take on any more people that were connecting through there. So, they were only allowing passengers with Amsterdam as their final destination to fly in. This policy only half made sense, as there were people on my original flight that were only connecting to western parts of Germany, and said that if they would just put them on the flight they would gladly take the train there, but instead they kept everyone with a connecting ticket at their original location.

I was due to fly on KLM/Delta the whole way, but when I was rebooked for Monday they put me on Continental. You may recall some of my previous gripes/complaints about flying Continental, so this wasn’t something I was excited about, but it was a flight home. The woman doing the rebooking was looking into all sorts of options for me, including taking the train to Paris, then flying to Abu Dhabi and connecting to Houston (not entirely sure she knew what she was doing). This would’ve taken a day longer than just waiting a day and flying on Monday, so flying on Monday sufficed. In line with my expectations and their track record, Continental lost my bag again. By the time I waited for all the bags to be unloaded, reported the missing bags, cleared customs, and security, the doors were shut at my terminal and they wouldn’t let me board. So, I got a layover in Houston a bit longer than expected.
They were eventually found and delivered late Wednesday night, but yeah, still hate Continental.

It’s been a busy week in Silver. I’ve been getting accustomed to my new truck (which is SWEEEEET), getting the trailer ready for the cross-country move, running errands, and seeing all of the family. Today we actually drove to Albuquerque and back to see my grandfather, aunt, uncle and cousins for Christmas (this is being written just north of Socorro). Christmas and Boxing Day will be spent in Silver, and on the 27th we should start driving back to Columbus. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.
