Jiffy Lube

Today I changed the oil on my Jag. This is the first time I have had to do this, as it will go 1year or 10,000 miles on an oil change. Its a good thing too, because its just as expensive to change the oil here as it is to fill up the gas tank. I called the Jaguar dealership and they wanted £249 to change the oil. For those keeping score at home, that's $382 for an oil change. Yeah, so I did it myself.

It was cheaper to do it at home, but still a lot more than a Jiffy Lube would've charged. 6 quarts of Castrol semi synthetic (sold in liters over here) cost about £46, and the filter was £3.50. I also changed the air filter for good measure at £12, and the oil catch can was another £10. So, about $91 to change the oil, not including the air filter.

The only thing that was different about changing the oil on this car compared to any other car is that it has a small plastic scoop that bolts to the engine to direct air onto the backside of the transfer case. You have to remove this to gain access to the drain plug (held on by one screw and a dowel). Otherwise, I have no idea where the dealership found nearly $300 in service costs.

Oh I know. There's no pace like home, and I can't wait to get back.
