Golfing Indiana

One of the best things about moving to Indiana is that its green. Very very green. So green, in fact, that you can buy a chunk of countryside that isnt used for farmland, mow it, and have a golf course. I have played two courses this month, Rock Quarry Golf Course, and Otter Creak Golf Course. Rock Quarry is a nice little 18 hole course about 10 minutes east of my house. I drove by it after deciding to turn on a country road. The idea popped into my head after I passed a police officer who realized about the same time I did that I was speeding. Apparently, he wasnt that fond of the golf course, because when he turned around and I turned off, he chose not to follow me. At least that is what I will tell myself.

Nevertheless I returned to the course a couple days afterwards to play it. When i drove by, they had a sign out that said closed through March. I was about to leave when a maintnence guy caught me and told me that if I wanted to play a round, I could ask the owner, he was inside. They are in the middle of redoing a great deal of the course, as well as reworking a lot of the inside of the pro shop. He explained that they have been busy working, so the course wouldnt be in the best of conditions, but I could play for free if I wanted. SCORE!
Here are some pictures of the course, as it sits, unmaintained, in the middle of winter. I would like to point out that this course doesnt have a sprinkler system. This is just as it is.

So, those are from Rock Quarry. These below are from Otter Creek. Otter Creek is one of the top 75 public courses in the US. Its a Robert Trent Jones Course, which means it looks great, but plays tough. Hes an asshole like that. The course is 27 holes, 18 of which were open during the day I was there. $25 bucks for a round without a cart, decent enough.

I like the small landing in the middle of the creek. As some of you know, Jeff once his a ball out of the water in a hazard in Silver City rather than taking a drop. This island is for you.
